Practising Paper 3 skills from past-year papers

Paper 3 focuses on experimental and data-handling skills, and past questions are an excellent way to build them because the underlying format is consistent. Whatever the context, you are usually asked to work with variables, record and process data, plot a graph, and draw a conclusion.

Start by practising the front end: reading an experiment description and correctly stating the manipulated, responding and constant variables, plus a suitable hypothesis. These framing marks are dependable once the habit is set.

The technique that moves the needle is treating data analysis as a fixed routine. Tabulate with correct headings and units, plot precisely, draw a best-fit line, calculate a gradient with units, and relate it back to the aim.
