The seven Form 5 chapters
Form 5 KSSM Physics has seven chapters:
- Chapter 1: Force and Motion II
- Chapter 2: Pressure
- Chapter 3: Electricity
- Chapter 4: Electromagnetism
- Chapter 5: Electronics
- Chapter 6: Nuclear Physics
- Chapter 7: Quantum Physics
That is one more chapter than Form 4, and several of them are more abstract.
What each chapter covers
- Force and Motion II extends mechanics to resultant forces, resolution of forces, forces in equilibrium and elasticity (Hooke's law).
- Pressure covers pressure in liquids, atmospheric and gas pressure, and Pascal's, Archimedes' and Bernoulli's principles.
- Electricity deals with current, potential difference, resistance, Ohm's law, series and parallel circuits, electromotive force and internal resistance, and electrical energy and power.
- Electromagnetism covers the magnetic effect of a current, the force on a current-carrying conductor, electromagnetic induction and the transformer.
- Electronics introduces semiconductor diodes, rectification and the transistor.
- Nuclear Physics covers radioactivity, radioactive decay, half-life and nuclear energy.
- Quantum Physics covers quantum theory, the photoelectric effect and wave-particle duality.
Why the load feels heavier
Two things happen at once. You meet abstract topics like electromagnetism and quantum physics that cannot be pictured as easily as motion, and you must keep Form 4 fresh because SPM tests both years together. Electricity in particular carries many formulas and circuit rules, so it rewards early, spaced practice.
How to carry Form 5 well
- Keep a weekly slot for Form 4 revision even while learning new Form 5 chapters, so nothing goes cold.
- Turn Electricity and Electromagnetism into circuit and field diagrams you can redraw from memory.
- For Electronics, Nuclear and Quantum, focus on clear definitions and the few key formulas rather than trying to memorise every line of text.
- Start full past-paper practice earlier than you think you need to; Form 5 leaves less slack.
If a topic such as electromagnetism keeps slipping, one-to-one help on that specific chapter, with worked examples, usually clears it faster than repeated solo re-reading.
